Know Thine Enemy – Then Pick the Best Woman

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Sun Tzu, The Art of War

It has already begun.  Inter-party attacks - Democrat vs. Democrat.  Blogger vs. Supporters of a potential Democratic candidate for president.

I know, it is inevitable.  On this New Year's Day, I am resolving one thing as I start this new blog - know thine enemy.  Knowledge is power.  Take every vitriolic attack with a grain of salt.  At some point near the middle of 2020, we will have a candidate for president who will run against the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party.  (For the record, I don't think it will be Trump.  For that matter, I don't think it will be Pence, either.)

That said, in the 2020 primary election season, the enemies become people within the party.  You are going to hear candidates say all kinds of horrible things about other candidates WITHIN the same party.  Now, some of those things will be true, but you need to separate the wheat from the chaff.  You need to become knowledgeable about all of the candidates.  If you don't know your enemy, you may not make an informed decision.  Do not be afraid to get to know a candidate so well that you actually begin to like them.  There is nothing wrong with changing your mind!

Here is my thinking.  I am on automatic right now - my choice for president is going to be a woman.  That is my default.  However, I would be crazy not to make sure I know all I need to know about the old white liberals who are running.  I need to take a good hard look at the minority males who are running as well.  Maybe they can surprise me.  But I believe it is time for a woman to be president of the United States of America.  Together, we can figure out who that woman should be.  Don't worry, I am going to keep an open mind.

What better place and what better time to become knowledgeable about all of the candidates than right here at owlguy.com?  At the bottom of this page you can sign up to have these blog posts emailed to you.  I only blog 2-5 times a week.  The blogs are short.  I am not sending you multiple articles each time.  I am sending you one blog post that will take you, at most, five minutes to read.

I have read a book that I highly recommend - it is called Atomic Habits.  It suggests that when you make atomic (or small) changes to your habits, the long term growth can be far-reaching.  Read the book, I highly recommend it.  But start now with changing a habit.  Make yourself more knowledgeable about politics.  Make it a five minute habit a day.  When you see the email, stack the next habit and open it!  That will be the beginning of your desire to know more about politics.  Obviously, this site isn't just for beginners; experienced political hacks will find our posts meaningful, as well.

I will help you by cutting through all of the hype and find the dig deep to find the real story.  That is my strength.  I promise, I won't tell you how to think, I will tell you my thoughts, and I will give you, to the best of my ability, the opposing viewpoint, so you can make an informed decision.

By the way, if you do buy the book at amazon.com, please do it at smile.amazon.com and choose "Legends Chess" as your charity.  Legends Chess is a nonprofit organization I founded to bring chess clubs and tournaments to Title I schools (in low income neighborhoods) in the Phoenix area.  It does not add anything to the cost of your purchase.
